Welcome to McAlester

Welcome to the city of McAlester, where the Buffs have homefield advantage and the Dancing Rabbit takes to Choctaw Avenue at least four times a year. The largest city in Choctaw Nation and one of the state’s oldest communities. With unique attractions, a lively downtown, and uniquely situated for outdoor fun like climbing, water skiing, and disc golfing (in one of our two 18-hole courses!), McAlester offers the perfect overnight or weekend getaway.

Although we encourage you to choose your own adventure when planning your trip to McAlester, here’s just a few things the dancing rabbit would recommend.

Rest Your Head

There’s plenty of places to stay  in our fine city. From hotels to Airbnbs, accommodations are plenty. Search and you’ll see. However, if you want the bunny’s recommendation, we’re going to say start your adventure by booking your stay at AmericInn.

Grab Some Grub and Libations

Did you know that right next door to McAlester is our neighbor Krebs, which is known as the “Little Italy of Oklahoma.” If you’re hankering for some fine Italian food, our neighbors down the way can hook you up. However, right in McAlester, we have some amazing dining options. With over 27 dining options (heck, more if you count the short drive to some of our other neighboring towns), we’re sure you’ll find just what you’re craving. But, might we recommend just about the best chicken you could ever have. Check out our friends at The Yardbird 1986.  Or, if you need that jolt of energy the morning before you hit the festival, stop by Spaceship Earth Coffee, and ask for the Dancing Rabbit special.

When You’re Not At the Festival

McAlester is a great place to get out and explore, whether it’s exploring downtown or enjoying one of the fine city parks. And if you hop in the car and take a short drive, there are even more exciting options. So, if you’re planning to spend the weekend in our delightful city, after you spent your Saturday listening to our exciting line-up of performers, perhaps you’ll want to consider spending your Sunday out hiking the caves of Robbers Cave State Park or out on beautiful Lake Eufaula. And if you can’t do both, there’s always another Dancing Rabbit Festival show date in the future.

Sleep? Who Needs Sleep?

The Festival is finished but you’re not? We get that my friend. The Dancing Rabbit never wants the night to end. There’s still more fun to be had after the song. Just follow the Dancing Rabbit to Downtown 312 where you may find the Dancing Rabbit Spotlight Series or to Spaceship Earth Coffee for a special event.
